THE LATE OUTRAGE.
As it was found upon close examination of tho little girl O'Connor's clothes that they had been cut, and that no knife had been found on the prisoner, Constable Eccleton, accompanied by Mr Trotter, proceeded to the scene of tho capture yesterday morning with a view to search the spot wherothe man was bailed up to seo if anything could bo found, and were successful _in finding a double-bladed pocket knife and some tobacco an the sxact spot, and within a yard or so a leathern rovoborcaso was found which' bore ovidenco of having a revolver in it pile- recently, Furthersearcli was made in the immediate vicinity, but without any result, In the afternoon a search party was organised and the scene of the out-
rago was thoroughly inspected with very I satisfactory results. The little girl was ['brought under Dr Boy's care, and from I the placo where the villain first struck her down to tho spot whore ho left her, she pointed out in the most clear and concise manner.possible. Tho missing pinafore was found by Mr T, Jackson and the frock by Mr J. Ryan, both being hacked and cut about in a shocking manner, it being a wonder how the child escaped without '■ being cut. Constable Bccloton picked up the"child's arithmetic book and Mr Webster some portions of the scarf that the prisoner in court admitted was his. The child also picked up-some small pieces of her garments that had been cutoff, All together, sufficient evidence was found yesterday to' convict tho prisoner before any jury. An extensive search was made in hopes of a revolver being found, but nothing of the sort was'seen. With reference to the leathern case, if the prisoner had such a thing on him, his former employers or work nates must have seen it, so for the ends of justice wo hope they will communicate the same to tho police :.s'it may have belonged to some other person and by a mere chance the constable happened to find it close to where he captured the mar,
