THE WAIRARAPA JOCKEY CLUB.
We hate received from the Secretary of the Wairarapa Jockey Club a copy of the Steward's report for 1881-2, which will be presented at the half-yearly meeting on the 27th inst, From it we gather that the spring meeting, as well as the autumn, one, was financially a success, and that the continuance of it is recommended. The racing throughout at both-meetings was honestly conducted, there being in many instances large fields starting, The operations of the Club for the past year realise the respectable total of £102712s Bd, leaving a cash balance of ,£l97' 2a 7d in hand for future operations, The affairs of this Club have, since it secured •the services of Mr E. K. Armstrong as its secretary, shewn a marked improvement; not that they were neglected before, but.simply because there are few linen in .tho colony have Mr Aivmstrong's kriowledge.of horses and racing, combined with an exceptionally good capacity for business. The report .is merely a record of a successful spring and autumu meeting. In the amount received and expended, and.in.the balance to'the good held over, for future operations, it is a head and shoulders taller than any' previous annual statement.
