Auckland, 20th April, , At the half-yearly meeting of the Bank of New Zealand, held yesterday afternoon the Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, said that the figures themselves called for little nomarlt; they exhibited a gratifying progress in every departmett of the bank's business, and notwithstanding the exceptionally, low prices of money during the past six raonthß, the volume of business of the bank had been so great as to more than compensate for any shortcomings in this respect. He added:—'l havo much pleasure in congratulating the shareholders on the steady progress of the colony of which thero can be no better criterion than the reported healthy condition of the publio revenue. The recent abnormal state of the London money market showing rates higher than were current in tho colonies has for. a time checked the flow of money for investment 'but with reluming cheap rates and the growing appreciation of the safety of colonial Investment, wo may reasonably look for capital finding its_ way here as fast as wo are likely to inquire it; Notwithstanding the almost total cessation of assisted immigration, w-iieh we may hope will soon be resumed, there lias been a steady inpour of population, of a dags calculated to assist the rapid development of our acknowledged great resources. Tho general result of our pastoral and agricultural operations lias beau very satisfactory, and especially from an Auckland point of view. Increased attention is being given to wheat growing, and the successful results of tho seasons cropping appear to justify the expectation of this branch of business being largely extended in the futuro. The whole outlook, I am pleased to Bay, is of a most cheering character. Mr 6. B. Owen secqnded (he motion, which, after some remark's from Mr J. C, Firth, was put and agreed to. The Hon J. Dignam moved a vote of thanks to Directors and officers, which', on being carried, was responded jo by tlie chairman and p. L. Murdoch.
