A PARIHAKA SCARE.

The.Government have received information from Colonel Roberts thatNatiyes held a hurried meeting at dawn at Parihaka yesterday. From the Constabulary Camp several of the Natives were heard addressing the assemblage,. It was estimated 800 natives were in marae, however before any steps could be taken by Major Goring the Natives dispersed. Food was not given out in marae bat taken in whares. Amessenger of the Government Interpreter went into Parihaka with view of ascertainirg if possible what had been done at meeting, but was not successful. At 9.30 yesterday morning natives again assembled in Marae,: 60 men from Newell's road and 25 • from Pungarehu were sent for in order to be in readiness if required. Mr Bryce telegraphed from here to Colonel Robertß to. have some whares in neighborhood of Marae pulled down and in such a way that they would fall into Marae and ulso that all the males who . were strangers to Parihaka should be arrested if in any nnmbera. Twelve whares were destroyed, and as soon as the alien tribes saw this they left Parihaka, bo Colonel Roberts decided not to arrest any Maoriß who were told that the destruction of whares was decided on through their holding a meetiue. A messenger visited Parihaka again during the afternoon and was satisfied the'meeting had taken place and he was .informed that it was in con-; sequence of Bryce being out of office that the meeting liad been held. Telegrams this morning say everything is quiet and there is no signs of a meeting, but the Natives are sullen. The Natives have taken away their goods and jremovedfrom their .whares which they destroyed.
