E, Paige made a short address, Ho alluded to the suoooss of tlio entertain' ments of last soason, and to the appreciation with which they had been received, Those who attended had the satisfaction of knowing that their money was devoted to a useful object; and that they might justly feol proud of the handsome organ whicn had been purchased out of the proceeds of the last enterfajnmeuts, Tha suc'cew wnioh atf(snd^.'!|figse' ! had '{jij dupedjlhe promoters tpjuauguratp 'a spjs ond series and thiß time the proceeds, would be devoted to the purchase of a piano for the pariah. Hitherto they had had to trespass on tho kindness of Mrs Corbett and Mn Nicol and this was too I much to expect as a regular thing. He thanked those who had assisted in the entertainments and alluded to the loss they had sustained-by the departure of Mr;] M. Girdlestpne who always bppri ready tp assist. A%iq'ii wqs.' Mr Paige who was frequently applauded during the oourse of his remarks then apologised for the absence of. the string Band, and called upon Mrs Paigq for thel overture which was well \ rendeWd ana?' much applauded. The Choir under the conductorship of Mr Bish then gave. ".Sep, Our Oars," in good.time and,voice, receiving a hearty compliment from the &udjence;, 1,. . j i "tßhe Veatjtiful Bdfjg/?; Mai* of Athens!* pa next sweetly rendered by Mrs Bent and loudly applauded.' Miss Corbett's piano .forte-solo which followed was very correctly played, and highly complimented. -The first eucore wasobtained by Mr Plympton with " The gallants of Eng-
and," for which he responded with the ' laat dofendor," both songs being sang t. with great spirit. I Mr W. G. Board then gave with great ' humor an amusing sketch of" a Mexican Plug," keeping the audience laughing from the start to the finish of that sagacious animal. Major Smith followed with "Tho old Brigade," which ho sung with great verve receiving a hearty encoro. He respondod with " Love lives for ever," which was equally well rendered. Mrs Paigo then played a vory skilful . solo on the piano, for which ahe narrowly escaped an ecc ire. The i ong of tho evening was ''Tim L >st Chord" which was next givon by Mr Ganfc, It was sing with great power and expression, and received an encore, which was responded to with " Beloved Eye," also excellently rendered and receiving loud applause. " Tho'Pjalui of Life," (by Longfellow) was very effectively given by Mr Dalrymple and much applauded. ,ftlr Eapp followed with " Jack's Yam," for'vAjch hb received an encore, responding wntii'" I cau't make it out, can you I' which proved highly amusing and was "ivell appreciated. Tho glee "DearEngland," and National Antliom by the choir, brought a very pleasant and successful gathering to a close.
