CARTEETON INSTITUTE.
COMMITTEE KEPORT, ,i- \ ' PBfltlemen,f We were elected iy 50 u as your committee on the Brd May last year whon you handed to w. fine' building with itsWntents whiolf that time had a debt remaining on it 1 of M and all yon gave na to pay it with was a bank balauoe.of £2lßs 2d and your best wishes, - One of the first things your Committee did was to pay off the debt on the building by arranging for an advance from the bank to whom Mr Wm. Booth gave his personal guarantee, and it will be shown I by the treasurer's statement that ai'evenue of £7O haß been obtained; that there has I been a further expenditure of about $0 on these 'premises for seats,- fittings, | stables, fenoing, lamps, &o.; that insurance has been effected on the building for the year ending 14th July next in the sum .oMSOO and £2OO on the books; and that after paying all liabilities the overdraft from the bank will remain at £57.
The buildings and improvements atthe present time represent an outlay of £362 12s Id, and it would be desirable before going on with painting to have' the windows properly hung, and if possible Bome^alterations made in the front of the building so as to improve its appearance. . The Committee gratefully aoknowledga the general and liberal spirit manifested by several subaoribera and friends of the Institute, and specially are their thanks due to Messrs Booth ant} Samuel for their donatious from time (o time of hooks, thus m a great jfleasqre the Librarian to tide over the great P§d foy new literature. Your Committee would now recommend an expenditure of about Ll6 in new, books, on receipt of which a complete catalogue might be prepared and circulated, whioh would, no doubt, bo the moans of obtaining a considerable number, to our list of subscribers.
Wa would also suggest {or the earnest ooijaiqeratjQn of the incoming Committee thp ing 0} tlip regdjiifj a|)d chjjp rooms gay every evening from fto 10 o'olopk, This, wo think, might prove a grefit W)i to many 1 especially during tho wintei) months, and although it is an undertaking whioh will require considerable trouble ana outlay, still considering what has been aohieved during the last year or bo, we think all that is wanted is a continuation of {he energy and liberality which has already teeii Inhibited, j\nd the de-fiii-ed rosults will follow. m '||.63g roijiarks \yo leave it to you gentlemen tq elpot yduroffieors Wd Qomlifittee for tho ensuing yeaf. THE BOUND SITE, An application was read from the Borough aakintj for t]ie piece of land wluoh adjoined the pound at a pepper corn rent, *
, Messrs Hare and Wrigley thought they had better not grant the application; Tho Chairman thought that £1 should be charged per annum forfche pound only, The Chairman would agree to let them have the whole at LI,
Messrs Hare and Wrigley could not see what the Borough wanted with the section, which was a very valuable one, fronting a main-street.
' Mr Perry suggested that 10s a year be charget] for the pound alone. Mr flaro sajdUey ha 4 bolter tpy tliia, and wait till they saw what- the Council waited to do lyith the adjoining piece before dealing with it, The Clerk thought the Council intended to build a poundkeeper's residence, Mr Hare said when they saw that in black and white they could deal with it, He moved that a 21 years lease be granted for the present pound site at 10s per year, Mr Wrigley seconded.

This did not find a seoonder on the ground that section 29 belonged to a private individual, and it would not be right for. the Trust to attempt to deal with it.
