THE BISHOP OF DURHAM ON TEMPERANCE.
The Bishop of Durha Ajecently said the liquor questionWtW not divide Church from Church, not to divide political parties. Th& majority of the House of Commons was pledged to local option, he thought' they should also have something certain—for instance a fixed number of public-houses proportionate to the populations—and not leave everything to .caprice and chance. - Six years ago he thought he would try-teetota-lism. He did so, and rot only had the gloomy vaticinations of his friends been disappointed, but he hud slept better at nights, and worked more easily during the (lay. Altogether he looked upon it as a great gain, and believed there were thousands of cases similar to his own.
