Last Saturday a correspondentfrom Wai hakeko writes to us, two breaks and three traps, loaded with school children and Ri'own nps loft Waihuliolio for n trip to Masterton, An extra railway carriage was in waiting for them at tho Carterton Station which they quickly filled, giving three cheers as they left the station On arriving at Masterton they were met by a friend who kindly pointed out to them a place they could have their picnic, under the sliatlo of a few trees, near a beautiful stream, not far from the station. After ! enjoying themselves for about two hours they hailed the Masterton 'bus, which took the lot, about 45 in all, pretty closely 1 jammed, on to tho town; they then dispersed to see the wonders of Masterton. A meeting of tho Olarevillo School Committee took place at the school room on Saturday evening. Present—Messrs Francis (chairman), Bairstow, Vile, Burrow, Goodin, and Smith. The minutes of tho last meeting were read and confirmed, and tho balance to the credit of the Committee reported at £1317s 7d, The chairman reported that the average daily attendance sinco the commencement of the month had rison from 62 to 75. A letter was received from Mr Challis as to the non-attendance of his daughter at the school, he alleging her detention at home owing to hor being subject to fits, and offering to provide medical testimony of the Inadvisability of her attending. It was, under these circumstances after a short debate, agreed to let the matter remain in abeyance for the present, A letter was read from the secretary of the Education Board, requesting the committee to nominate some gentleman in the place of Mr 0, Pharazyn resigned, and from'the Secretary of the Mastorton School Committee requesting this Committee to support the nomination of Mr W. C. ' Buchanan. On the motion of Mr Bair- ' stow seconded by Mr Goodin it was resolved that Mr WVC Buchanan be nominated by tho Committee as a fit and ' proper person to fill the vacancy that had ' arisen in the Wellington Board of Education, A specification for the gate and fencing on the road, and dividing the j girl's from the boy's play-ground waß read, \ and on discussion it was resolved thafithe ! completion of the work.be left in the ■ hands of the chairman and Mr Vile.
