FIRE AT TE ORE ORE.

On Saturday evening the residence of Mr J. Bnumbor and nearly all its contents were destroyed by fire, Tho exact origin of the fire is not known, but the following are the circumstances:—A young man living at Mr Baumber's went upstairs about half-past six and struck a match to light a candle, but not finding one placed the match, which had almost burnt out, on the odge of the candlestick, and securing tiie article he was in search of, went duwnstairs and left tho houso. When ncor Mr Moore's lie looked back and saw flames issuing through the roof, Mr Baumber's family in the meanwhile were at tea, and were disturbed by a sound as of heavy rain on tho roof One of them went outside to ascertain the cause, and discovered the upper portion of tho house to be in flames, The whole family went to work to savo what they could, but in less than five minutes they were tumble to outer the building for smoke and flames. The quantity of furniture saved was very small, and the wearing apparel of tho whole of the family, excent what they had on, was destroyed, The building was insured in the North British (R. Brown k Co. agents) for L 75 and the furniture in the sumo office for L 25. The estimated loss outside the insurance is over Ll5O. It was just a chance the place was insured at all, as the iusuranco had expired in November, and it was only aftor repeated cautions by tho agent that Mr Baumber renewed the policy, The loss falls very heavily on Mr Baumber, who is a hardworking, struggling man.
