The Wairarapa Daily. TUESDAY, MARCH 7, 1882.
Mr Renhl virtually retired from public life last evening, selecting Mr. ■Worth, hb an Elisha on whom his prophetic mantle was to fall. We are; glad to see Mr Renall taking this course and would gladly have said-a few kindly words to. him on such an occasion if, it were possible. slr' Rskall's exit, however, is-of such a character that it is difficult to say much in its favor. He will not contest the election with Mr Feist because lie knows that he will be beaten. He will not fight but he snaps and snarls all round. The less said about such : a scene the better! We have no wish to dwell, .upon the discomfiture of an opponent, and though Mr Renau never laid himself more open to adverse criticism than he did last evening, wo shall on this occasion pass over his unreasonable and vindictive utterances. Of tho proposed division of . the Borough into Wardß we shall have something lo say in another issue. We desire, to dissociate this subject from last night'B meeting. It is of course brought forward as an. act of retaliation because Mr Renall is beaten and has to retire from the municipal con test. We do not, however, intend, either to adopt or reject tha proposal on such a very unsatisfactory ground as this.
