No, 4 Ward.—The Kaummgi road deviation but for the persistent errors committed by the sub-contractors for the metalling would have been completed by this meeting, As it is, however, the work has still to be gone over again, and will not be Gnished for a week or so, The work gives satisfaction, No, 6 Ward-Contract for forming and metalling Tnpurupuru road.—One section of the contract will be finished in the course of next week, the other, not as yet j having been commenced, it is difficult to ■n determine the probable date of its completion, Carter's Creek bridge-Owing to what appears to be the most unjustifiable breach of contract on the part of the timber merchant supplying the material for this work, tho contractor has been suspended from work for nearly a fortnight, and has ' how had to get the deficient material (for which payment has already been made to the saw mill owner in question) from another quarter, It is, I understand, the intention of the contractor to settle the mattor by having recourse to the law, by which means it is to bo hoped he may acquire the rights which this apparent lack of a decent oeuso uf justice has deuiod him. Survey operations. —My camp has shifted over the main Maungaraki range, and is at present pitched at tho stockman's whare, from which point I am executing the permanent location of the roads towards Waihenga and Gladstone.
