KURUPUNI SUNDAY SCHOOL.
This first anniversary of the above was celebrated yesterday. The school was organised about eighteen month's ago by. a few residents in that locality, and although at first but a limited number of scholars attended it has increased till now there are 75 children and seven teachers on the roll, The latter are • Messrs W. Boyden (BupetintendentJ, Boult, E. Arnold, 0. E. Daniel, J, Pybusl and Misses J. and M. Allen, and during the whole of the past quarter there hare only been two absences. The school has been held in a small room kindly lent by Mr Tinsley for the purpose, but the number who attend now make it impossible to have all in the room at one time, so on fine days a portion of the children form a class outside, and on wet ones a full attendance does not take place. The promoters of the school look forward to the timo when the proposed new hall will be erected, hoping to utilise that building, . which will be very suitable for their purpose. Yesterday some large rick covers were stretched to form an awning, beneath which about 200 parents, children, and friends assembled to listen to the anniversary sermon preached by the Eev. J, Dukes at 3 o'clock, He took for his text the 21st Chapter of St. John, the latter part of the 15th verse" Feed my Lambs," and gave a very interesting and instructive addreßß, which was more particularly directed to the teachers, who, by their action in establishing and oarjng for the school were carrying out the divine injunction. The children (who have been trained in singing by M.C Walter Greaves and Mr Bouit) assisted by some members of the Masterton choir sang some appropriate hymns in a very nice manner, which reflected credit upon their instructors. A collection was made with the satisfactory result of £ll9s, in addition to this various friends have cop? tributed some Si 10s in cash and several articles for the children's treat, which takes place at Kurupuni to-day, tea being on the table at 5 o'clock, From the great interest taken in the school by the residents of the lower end of Masterton • there will be a very large muster present, ( and a pleasant re-union held. ,\
