FARMERS MEETING.
A mih attended meeting of the farmers of the Masterton district was held at the Club Hotel last evening. The milling interoats being represented by Messm Onambflrjajn, Baoon, and Vile. lilr T. L', Thorapsgn was voted to the chair, and''explained to object of the meeting, wh'iob was to fix the prioe of wheat. It had been .riihiore'd that the millers of the diatriot Jisifl oombtrifld io'.ke'ep down the price of wheat, and he thought it only' fair that the farmers fihould,take'steps to protect tljemselyei, iff e was glad to be able to say that the rumor was groundless and that the millers were willing to meet them in a fair spirit,. The. Interest of the farmers and the millers wore IndenticaJ, and they should work together for. the welfare of the distriot, Canterbury wheat was now quoted, at-4s up country, and 4s $d phjpped. •Mr thought he had been instrumental'ib bringing about the meeting, Canterbury farmers could afford to sell at 3s lOd per..bushel, and the millers here could fairly advance on that, He thought all should make a fair profit, His motto was "live and let live."
Mr Bacon expressed an opioion that the millers could not give more than 4s per bushel, After considerable disoussion 1 Mr'E. Welch-moved—That the:farmerß.-ask-jts 3d per bushel cash, or 4s 6d on terms,;; MrThos. Brown seconded...
Mr Carman moved as an amendment— That the farmers ask 3d advance on the Canterbury prices, .-.'. ~;;.,.',..-., Mr Baumber seconded the amendment, thinking it would be the fairest way.
The Chairman then put the resolution whioh was carried, A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the mooting,-- ;
