Mr Easthope moved-" That this Association do not name any candidates; for the election of Licensing Commissioners." He had thought over the matter very seriously, in fact the subject was seldom from his mind, and he had felt that it would be best for the Temperance Cause not to provoke a conflict; There were certainly enough temperance men in the district to fight the. matter out and win the battle if they could be united; but it;,was like working with a rope of sand—ffipre was no cohesion—no unity. . Under these oiwurpstappps, {)ipub}i t|ey. might call a moeting to sep which candiiktejj they would support, he '■ thought' '.ftp Associationhad better not name any..' '.- The Rev. J. McKee seconded.' Who did they think wold nominate temperance men if they did.not ? Would they leave' it to the publicans? He had- been told that Mr McGregor was proposed by the publicans, and was likely to beat the head of the poll; if that was the case sur-ely they, had enough sympathisers to get-twomure candidates in.
