MASTERTON SCHOOL PICNIC.

This picnic was held at the new school ground yesterday. The arrangements for it had been caieiully made by a Sub-com-mittee consisting of Mr (.randy, head master, and Messrs Vile, McCardle, and Russell. The attendance of both parents and children was all that could be desired, and would hate tad the resources of most caterers, but MrClayson to whose cave the supply of eatables and drinkables was committed, proved equal to the occasion, and his stores of sandwiches, buns, and cakes, withstood the armies of boysand girls who attached them. The usual outdoor sports were indulged in, for which liberal prizes offered, and the committee, assisted by the lady teachers of the school and some friends from outside it, worked hard to promote tho oomfort of the little ones. In the afternoon the new buildings were, by the courtesy of Messrs Williams and Barker, the contractors, thrown ODOn for an hour, to enable visitors to inspect the handsome class rooms, From every point of view tho gathering was a success, perhaps the only drawback being the somewhat hard and rough grounds, but this no doubt will be remedied as soon as the new fences are erected,
