GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly melting of the Greytown Borough Council was held on Monday evening. Present:—Hia Worship the Mayor, Ors Baillie, Thompson, Haigh, Gallagher, Udy, and Bright. The minutes of the prerious meeting were read and confirmed.

Correspondence outward was read from the letter book. Inwards-Frbm Clerk of West County Council re tenders for Dog Collars. It was resolved that Mr A. L. Webster, the newly elected Town Olerk be appointed Registrar of Dogs at a commiaaion of 10 per cent. The Inspector of Nuisance's report for the past month was read. The.Treasurer's report was read and referred to the Finance Committee. It was resolved that the work of removing the logs in White Pine Creek be left in the hands of the Mayor. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Baillie, seconded by Or Haigh, that the work of clearing the main street be proceeded with at.once. If was resolved that Mr Greathead and Mrs Humphries receive notice that the Council intend removing obstructions in Church-street, in one month from this date, The Olerk was instructed to write to the Equitable. Building Society, Wellington, asking for "the names of the owners of property on .the Bite of the Jate:Rising Sun Hotel,'and that notice be given to the owners to fence the same in, if not complied with in fourteen days from date of notice the Council will ereot the fence at the owners' expense, Cr_ Baillie asked that a man might be permitted to be'put on the Papawai road for a week to fill in eertain holes—Referred to' the Works Committee. . Or Baillie gave notice that at the next meeting he would bring before the Council the matter of a subsidy to a Fire Brigade. •

Or Haigh proposed,', and Or Thompson seconded, that a publio meeting be called on Monday evening next, at 8 o'clock, to consider the advisability of granting tr aum.of. £SO to start a Fire Brigade, also, an annual subsidy 0f.£20, Or Haigh (rave notice that at the next meeting-he would move tl.at the Council re-oonsidei the advisability of employing a man constantly in the Borough. The meeting then adjourned.
