MASTERTON INSTITUTE.

(To the Editor Waibarapa Daily.) SiR-Your leading article of yesterday contains the following stotemerAamongst Others:-"It is true that named enterprises (the Park) have been to a certain elephants, but they- will main so." Eeßpeoting the Institutefmay I ask #en, and to what extent, that partioular elephant is likely to change its • oolor? Apart bom all pleasantry, I would ask whether the Institute oouldnot be made more useful than it is.at present ? It has no lectures, no classes, no museum, no soientifio or mechanical appliance's for the use of Btudents, If one wishes to study elootricityy he oannot find a battery or electrical maohine; if astronomy, he cannot find a telescope. Microscopes are never heard of. Physiology, botany, geology are not illustrated by So muoh as a single bone, leaf, or stone. Cannot these deficiencies be met in Borne way? i It has been urged that 'a want of funds prevents the institution from extending its operations, and that possibly the Committee would let rooms at a reasonable charge to young men who wished to form classes for study. I would put the question the other way, and ask the Committee to take the initiative by adding such auxiliaries as are required to. make the Institute useful and attractive, Suoh a movement would meet with more encouragement than at present appears likely. A great outlay is not required, and if an appeal to the pookets of members were necessary, it would meet with a willing response. ... . 1am,&0., ' ■ : F.T.R.
