FEATHERSTON HIGHWAY BOARD.
Ametip of the Featherston Highway Boai'd.was held on Saturday last. Present—Messrs Jas. Donald (Chairman),' Jackson, Matthews, Bidwill, Martin, and MpDougal. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Treasurer's report showed a credit balance of JJ77O 7s 4d, and a fixed deposit of £3OO, making a total of £IO7O 7s 4d, al6o a credit balance of the Waiohine toll fund of £2O 6d.
The following accounts were passed for payment:—

County Council, ad-' vising remittance of £144. 8s for East Coast road; from C. Pharazyn, complaining of traffic having been interrupted on the Lower Valleyroad, and urging progress on the Awhea road. TENDERS. For work at Katatara—S. Collins, 15s 6d per chain (accepted); J, Bond, 16s (declined).
For work at Wangairaoana, 40 ohains—

Bond, Si 19s per chain (aocepted), For work at Harris' Hill- Cole & Sayer, clearing llax and manuka and filling holes 7a per chain; removing fence 5s per chain; gates and 1$ chains fenciug, £6l3s Cd; side cutting, B|d per yd; extra posts, 13 per 100. J. Brodie, 3s chain, 4s lOd chain, £G, BJd per yd, £3 per 100 (accepted.) J. Bond, 4s chain, Cs chain, 110, 9(1 per yd, £315 per 100. The Board directed thata special meeting of the Board should be held on Monday, lGth inst,, at 10 a.m. to receive valuation for ensuing year.
Mr Jackson asked that he be empowered to continue the present repairs of roads, and also to continue the formation of Barratt's road.
Mr Donald reported that the works in his ward were in progress.
Mr Bidwill asked that the water-table on the Kalmutara road ho cleared out, that two culverts be erected near Mr McMaster's, that 10 chains of drain be cleared, and that metal be spread, ■-■
Mr Martin wished to• have about 30 ohaina of formation doue near Dry Eiver. Mr McDougall requested permission,, jointly with No. 5. Ward, to employ a roadman permanently for maintenance of roads.
The foregoing recommendations were granted, ; ; ';■■'•■ Mr Tully waited on the Board and offered to contribute half the.cost of the Wakawere Creek bridge if the Board would construct it.
An application from Mr Hodge to have the road in front of Battersea formed was deferred till funds are available. RESOLUTIONS. That an agreement be given to Mr O. Harris engaging the Board to fence the road laid off through his run atHautotaraas soon as the Board has sufficient funds for the purpose', and that in the meantime the Board would ereot gates. That tenders for tho Waihenga toll-gate for one year he advertised, That Mr Bucke'ridjje be written to demanding that the rent of the Waihenga Hotel bo paid punctually each month, and that ho be asked to pay the 'present month's rent without delay. That the sum of £lO out of the funds of No_4 Ward and a further Bum of £lO out "of the general fund, be granted towards constructing the Wakawere bridge, • That the Clerk be- instructed to sue at .ouce for all rates unpaid, and that.no further notices of any kind be given. That the Chairman he authorised to procure the necessary furniture for the Board's office, and the meeting then adjourned."'.
