OASTLEPOINT RACES.
The above races were were held oil the beaoh on Monday and Tuesday laat, and attracted a considerable number of visitors. They were well organised by. the j local committee. " This was almost Orflatraoe, the hurdles being only Bft high, but it . was remarked that as the horses were six inches deepen the sand they had average work to do. Hack Race £lO. .'. Won by Hawk, a Maori horse. The Stewards, finding they had still money in hand, got up a Forced Handicap, £lO. For winning horses only, second horse to take the entries. L Hurupai Rowdy ,JT After the races a meeting was Held at the Hotel for settling up. Mr Hill drew £SO, Mr Carswell 146, Mr Clifton £35, besides smaller amounts paid to .other winners, so that the Committee were very liberal in the distribution of money. One rale was adopted which gave general satisfaction, viz., that no horse should cany off more than one event, Forty-two horses ran.and most of them managed to earn something during the two days' spoit. This tended to make the gathering a pleasant one, and the Masterton visitors to it speak in the highest teraiß of the very enjoyable oharacter of the gathering.
