CARTERTON FIRE BRIGADE.
(To the Editor-Waiiiarafa Daily.). Carterton, Dec, 23rd 1881,
Snt|-Will you please insert the following in to-morrow's issue'if possible and oblige.
"Subscriber" in to-day's issue takes umbrage at your Carterton correspondent's rep -it re the above on Saturday last.
He siys "honor to whom honoris due." If there was any honor due to anybody ro the fire at Corpe's mill, of course it was not the members of the Brigade who left their work at a moment's notice, so let him have it if he wants it, When the Brigade reached the sceno of liro they found a /asb heap of saw-dust smouldering, and tho owner wantd it to burn. It hud been burning two days, and will probably burn for tho next six mom lis. The owner of the properly fully concurred with we, n'nd also with " Subscriber," that there was not the slightest dancer, unless there should rise a strong breeze. In that event tho Brigado was fully prepared to assist in averting any danger to adjacent buildings.
It was an error of judgment in sending for the Brigade at all, and if " Subscriber" is correct in his statement that we were not there half an hour, nnd during that time pulled a building down besides laking a general survey of the surroundings, there was not much time occupied iti strutting around. lam, &c,, Charles Potts. Cript. C.V.F.B.
