The Wairarapa Daily. SATURDAY, DECEMBER 24, 1881.
Wb again corns to the salute, ant) wjsh our gentle readers, and still gemler subscribers, a merry Christinas. This wish could lint be uttered with a very certain sound last year, and in 1879 itcould only be spoken with bitted breath, for the times wore then out of joint, and to very many it was a mockery to talk about enjoyment when the cares and troubles of financial disaster hung like a cloud over their heads, This is really tho lirst Christmas since 1878 which hns witnessed a state of general prosperity prevailing, and which justifies colonists in making merry.' Good timeb have again returned to us, and a season of rejoicing may appropriately bo honored. At this season of the year we have been accustomed to remind our readers that the secret of a happy . Christmas depends lest upon each individual in the community making things pleasant and comfortable for himself or herself than it does in promoting the pleasure of others. If this bo borne in mirid peace and goodwill may- still be the watchword. of the anniversary, and • make tho closing days of the old year the best and; most, memorable ones in tliQAvliole calender.
