It's liko unto a bowlof punch, ;. Combined to slack the thirst, It tones the temper of the rum It makes it soft and clear, And still it something gains itself Like porter mixed with beer. The boiling water ia the love Which blends them in one mould, And gives the whole its taste-it's all, But soon, alas I grows cold. The lemon added is the kiss, Which sharpens up the brew, 3ut, even like the fruit itself, It soon tastes bitter
When made red-hot, rum-pnnchisthen A beverage for a king; But lot it cool I how soon, alas I The virtues then take wing,
