INSTALLATION OF MAYOR.

At noon to-day the Borough Council met for the the installation of the new Mayor -Mr A. Bish. Present—The Mayor, and Crs Dixon, Vile, Bish, Price, and Bentley. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

~ Mr Bish then made the usual statutory declaration.

The retiring Mayor Bincerely thanked the Council for the kind consideration whioh had been accorded to him during his term of office. There had been very few hasty or hot debates, and goodwill and good feeling had characterized all of them. He trusted that the same good good fteling would be manifested during the coming year. He heartily concurred in the election of Mr Bish, and hoped the principle of selecting a member of the Council ai Mayor would be adhered to. He then vacated the chair in favor of the Mayor elect. (Applause,) The Mayor elect thanked Mr Benall for the kind remarks'which he had made, and acknowledged the kind assistance he had always reoeived from Mr Benall, and his advice bad been always valuable to him. He trusted, with the assistance ot his fellow-Councillors, to give satisfaction to the ratepayers. He would always remember the responsible position whioh he had undertaken, and-on all occasions he intended, in conducting the proceedings of the Council, to adhere as strictly sb possible to the ordinary rules of debate and refrain from making any remarks himself as chairman till every other' councillor? had spoken, He would strive to make the businei) go as striotly'and smoothly as possible.
