The cases under the Gaming and Lotteries Act will be held before the Resident Magistrare and a full bench of justices. Over thirty circulars have been sent to Justices of the Peace requesting attendance on the Bench. Christchurch.
The wool Bales were continued to-day. There was a scarcity of buyers, and a drop had to be submitted to in some cases of fdto Id per lb. About 2700 bales were catalogued by the various brokers. Heavy rain fell for about seven hours this morning. It will be an immense boon to the farmers, as all the crops had begun to suffer severely from the drought. The weather is still threatening. Uamabu, Dec. 20.
The first case under the Gaming and Lotteries Act was heard to-day, when Thorns? Wiren was charged in the Beaident Magistrate's Court with promoting a half-crown sweepstake on the racecourse He was fined ss, without costs.
