KmUTAWHITI v Greytown.
A cricket match was played in Stewards paddock on Saturday last between 12 of the Kuratiwhiti club, and 12 of the Greytown club, and resulted in an easy win for the latter, The bowling of Cuff and Eonaldson was very destructive to their opponents, whose innings closed for 52 runs, J, Hawke, W, Saywell, and.J, Tocker reaching double figures. The innings of the Greytown men commenced very disastrously the first 4 wickets falling for 4 mns, and it seemed as though they would be beaten; but Eonaldson, Day, R. Hirechbery, and Webster put a different complexion on the game, ior they put together 110 runs between them by some good play. There was a first class pitch, and the ground was in very good condition. The play of the Greytown men was pretty good, considering the little practice they have had, but the fielding of the Knratawhiti team was very loose; H. Hawke and W. Saywell's bowling was very good. Next Saturday the return match will be played, when a better contested game may be expected. The following are the scores ; KURATAWHITI H. Hawke, b Cuff 2 J. Hawke, c O'Connor, bßonaldson... 12 W. On Saturday last, two buggies left Masterton at 5 a.m, with the cricket team of the Borough Club, After one or two slight mishaps, the travellers reached Tenui about 11 a.m. The match was commenced in Mr Maunsell's paddock, a little before noon, and concluded about 4 p.m. The ground was rather rough, and the wind a little too boisterous for good cricket. The match was however a very pleasant one no hitch or disagreement of any kind arising to mar the harmony of the game. Mr Fitton was captain of the Masterton team, and Mr Boileau of the Tenui players. Mr Nicol was the Masterton umpire and Mr Seaton the Tenui one, Messrs Sellar (Masterton) and Seaton (Tenui) were the scorers. After the match the visitors sat down to a splendid spread provided for them at Owens' Hotel by the hospitality of the Tenui Club. The healths of both clubs weredrank with the utmost cordiality the Masterton men expressing themselves very much gratified with the kindly reception which ihey met with, The following are the scores .- Tenui—lst innings.
