THE DOUBLE VOTING CASE.
A man named William Smith, described | as a laborer, of Alfredton, was arrested this morning on a warrant, issued at the instance of the Returning Officer, for alleged double voting. He was brought up before Mr W. Lowes, J.P., and stated that he had' voted in Masterton on the day of the poll, and had nut been out of that town during that day. This he was prepared to prove. In the absence of the prosecutor (Mr J. J. Freeth), who is confined to his bed through Illness, the prisoner was remanded to Thursday next, bail being allowed, himself in £lO, and Mr J. fl. Corbett in 120. . -
