VOTING BY BALLOT.
[To the Editor of tho Daily, | Sir, —When recording my tote on Friday last, I noticed that the Betarning V OQicer, before handing me the voting , paper, marked on it the number opposite ray name on the roll. I have since heard some discussion on the subject, and in your issue of thin date you report how a certain individual voted. Myself, and ut others would liko to know, through your columns, if this is in accordance with the ■ spirit of the ballot? We. have happily little need to fear the "screw" being - put on in this country, but it is as w'ell to guard all the rights we possess. I am, &c.,
[lt is necessary to number the ballot papers to check fraud. When an information is laid against a voter for a fraudulent exercise of the franchise, tha .circumstances connected with tho giving of the vote must necessarily be divulged.—Editor W.D.I
