WAIRARAPA NORTH ELECTION
The declaration of the poll was made by the Returning Officer at noon this day as follows— G. Beetham 670 A. W. Eenall 351 From returns previously given, it appeared that one vote had been struck off Mr Eenall's total in Masterton, and one from Mr Beetliam's poll at Taueru. Mr Beetham, who was received, with cheers, returned thanks for the proud position in which he had been placed. It had been said that he had nothing to boast of, but he did not desire to boast. He was finite satisfied, however, that his past efforts to serve the district had been appreciated,' In the southrn part of the district the electors had returned a good man, but they also lost a good one. During the four years Mr Bunny had been his colleague he did not remember auy occasion on which ho (Mr Bunny) did not respond to any call made upon him by his constituents. He (the speaker) did not, "however, question the choice of the electors, and it would be his duty to work as earnestly and cordially with Mr Buchanan in the future as he had done with Mr ..Bunny in the past, He congratulated them on the result of the elections throughout the colony, which indicated that the extended franchise hail been exceedingly wisely, and justly exercised, .. H$ thanked them for the hearty support ivhioh they had given him, and only regretted the absence of Mr Renall, to whom he would have liked to have hold out the hand of fellowship and buried the hatchet. Ho had received neither from Mr Renall nor irom them the wet blanket. On the contrary, they had invested him with power to serve them furthor. He concluded by moving a vote of thanks to the Returning Officer,
