Mr Gabb, farmer, of East Tamaki,' is aeriouely ill in the Hospital with bloodpoisoning, caused bysoratchinghis thumb with a knife used to scrape Bheep footroot. The steamer Lallah Eoolth steamed up the Taheko river, Hokianga, 24 miles. Thiß is the first steamer which has over attempted it, This will open up large blocks of Bplendid land. Asubdrton, Dec, 3. Cookson's slables and Tiiit'a saddler's shop were destroyed by fire at half past two this morning. Saunders' buildings, one of the largest blocks in the town, had a narrow escape of being destroyed, the danger being averted chiefly by the efforts of'the fire brigade. The orisjin of thn fire, further than that it is supposed to have started in Tail's shop, is shrouded in mistery. The insurances are:—Conkson's stables and cottage at rear, £BOO in the Union Office, and Tait £250 in the Norwich. Oookson estimates his dead loss at £'4oo, and Tait at .£250. DoNKDitr, Dec. 5. The second day of (he Agricultural and Pastoral Show was very successful, about 5000 persons being present. The takings for the two days amounted to £195. The cup for the best draught entire was taken by Mrs Nimmo's Gladstone. Mr G. Dodson took the cup for the largest number of prizes in blood stock.
