GENTLEMEN.-Tn answer to the vety large requisition yon have presented me with I feel extremely pleased with the honor you have done me and confidence you havo displayed in me, especially as it was unsought for and unexpected on my part. As the requisition represents so very large and influential a section of the Burgesses of Masterton I have much pleasure in acceding to it, and if elected I promiso to do my duty to the beat of my ability without fear or favor, and to work in unison with the Councillors for the good of the whole Borough and to conduct the deliberations of the Council with propriety. My personal views are well known to a large number of the requitionists.butnow state for the information of other ratepayers that they arc empihticaliy pßOGtiEfwvE and at the same timo jjibk from recklessness. It will be my aim to assist in fostering such measures as will promote the substantial Welfare and advancement of the Borough so as to enable it to attain the position its natural advantages warrants. At the same time I will consider it my duty to counsel the ratepayers against unmatured schemes for reckless borrowing and expenditure, and will use my best endeavors to protect the Burgesses from being weighted down with excessive and burdensome rates, In conclusion. I wish to explain my reasons for not having taken part in local matters ere this, are that although having large interests_ in the Borough, I have not till now had leisure time at my disposal, and partly from not wishing to push myself forward to the exclusion of other gontlcmen who had prior claims on the suffrages of the Burgesses.—l an>, &a., M.
