A? the requisition represents so very largo and influential a section of the Burgesses of Masterton I have much pleasure in acceding to it, and if elected I promise to do my duty to tho best of my ability without fear or favor, and to work ill unis' ii with the Councillors for the good of the whole Borough and to conduct the deliberations of the Council with propriety,

At the same time I will consider it my duty to counsel the ratepayers against unmatured schemes for reckless borrowing and expenditure, and will use my best endeavors to protect the Burgesses from being weighted down with excessive ami burdensome rates, In conclusion. I wish to explain my reasons for not having taken part in local matters ere this, arc that although having large interests in the Borough, 1 have not till now had leisure time at my disposal, and partly from not wishing to push myself forward to tho exclusion of other gsnticmen who bad prior claims 011 the suffrages of the Burgesses.-I am, <Su, M.
