TO THE ELECTORS of WAIHARAPA SOUTH. Vjentlbmen,Ab a working settlor of twenty years, standing, I respectfully offer myself as a candidate to represent you in the now Parliament. Without wishing to raise any class erf, I may state that in my opinion the time has arrived when all classes of settlers should be reproaontfid. Hitherto the small holders of property have not hid their share of re ; presentation. In my loj|g and intimate acquaintance with the working of tho laws under which we Jive, it has caused me often to feel that irach a state of things ought not to exist. It is really no ust onr burking this quwtion j all fool that a change ia necessary. The large holdors already have their representative, and we are entitled to ours.

Although not altogether in favor of many actions of the present Government, yet believing as I do that unflinohing economy is still necessary in the administration of our finances, I shall be prepared to give the Hall administration an independent support reserving to myself the right to voto for whatever I consider to be for the benefit of the people and the advancement of the colony generally. With extended poweis, I believe the County Councils, in conjunction with onr Highway Boards, are capable of, iruoh• Council comprised of onr fellow4oji miwt necessarily be better acquainted with' our requirements and tbo management el local affairs than a Government offioial located at Wellington. . The- generous amount of supportjpromised to me wherever 1 have made my view) known has encouraged me to ask for the honor of representing yon. I own to no personal feeling in tho oontest, but simply an honorable ambition Jo eerve my feto: settlers. ■ " $' I hope to meet you at the various towns throughout South Wairarapa, and will then more fully explain my political growl. Yours fajtj)fuljy, burton joys, Taratahi, September 28.188J,
