FEATHERSTON HIGHWAY BOARD.
The first meeting of the new Boerd was held at the office, Featherston, on Saturday last, Present—Messrs Donald, Matthews, Jackson, Eiddiford, Martin, Bidwill, and McDougall. The Clerk read the official declaration of the returning officer re the last election,
It was resolved, on the motion of Mr McDougall, seconded by Mr Riddiford, that Mr James Donald be Chairman of the Board for the ensuing term of three years. Mr Donald having taken the chair, MrMatthews was elected Treasurer to the Board.
The Clerk read over the standing orders, which were adopted. The following accounts. were then passed for payment:—Terry ■ and Baillie, MS 5s 9d; W. Wratten. £3O; W. Skeet, ,£ll 8s 9d; J. The following correspondence was then read:—From C. Pbarazyn, requesting alterations and improvements to the Eaaj Coast road-From John Murphy anl others, complaining about the Bangerfl conduct, and' requesting his removal.-M From W, Normanby, asking that I portion of the Bush road near the pt party occupied by him be felled by t Board—From Wairarapa West Conn Council, stating that the unexpend balance of Main Eoad vote may expended dining the current half-year From Masterton Highway Board aski the Board to join in surveying a ro from Gladstone to Lower Pahaua, wh< the road leads through this district, From Colonial Treasurer, advising rem tanse of £1 on account of fines mi section 75 of the Highways Act, 1874. Permission granted, Mr Donald asked that the Engineer be instructed to prepare plans and specifications for formation of road from ths boundary between Nos. 2 and 3 Wards to Pigeon Bush. Granted. Mr Martin asked that a road be laid off across Harris's Hill. Resolved—That the Clerk write to Mr Harris and'ask him to allow the said road to be laid off and gates to be ereoted thereen, as there are no funds at present to fence the same. Mr MoDougall asked that the bridge over tho Oknra Creek and the effect of the late floods on the Turangarui be repaired,, Mr Riddiford expressed himself satisfied with the progress of the work in his ward. He would, however, ask that the Oroi road be repaired, and suggested that as Mr Barton had offered to put in the pipes required for drainage, that he report on the advisability of using stone or pipes, Resolved—That the Government be written to, asking that the roads in the district be laid off on the maps of the district, and that copies of the Bame be supplied for the use of the Board.—That the Government be written to asking, them to erect the proposed telegraph line' to Waihenga, bo that the posts should stand close to the fences or within one foot of them. The Board then adjourned.
