MASTERTON TOWN LANDS.
The usual meeting was held hist evening in the Council Chambers. PresentMessrs Feist (in the chair), Hare, Perry, and Wrigley (the latter being a newlyappointed Trustee). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and'confirmed, and the Clerk reported the overdraft at £BG 12s 1 €d.
A letter was road from the Secretary of the Greytown Trustees, thanking the Masterton Secretary for information supplied and with regard to the control of the Trust, referring the Masterton Trust to section 3 of the Act of 1871.
■Mr' Hare pointed out that though the' Act gave the control of the Greytown land to the Greytown, Trustees, it did not give them power to let a single acre gratuitously, "■'•■■■ - The Clerk was instructed to attend the sale of the Greytown reserves on Monday next, Mr Hare "remarking that the Grey-, town people required watching. A letter, was read from the Masterton School' Committee, stating that two members had been appointed to confer with the Trust re the subsidy to assistant teacher. Only one of these, ■ however, attended the meeting,
'The original resolution granting £3O to the assistant master was then rescinded, in order to leave the Trust free to make a fresh arrangement if necessary, it being understood that the grant was not to be cut off altogether. The Clerk was instructed to report as to the condition of the buildings on trust lands, also the insurances at next meeting. Mr Hare's motion to remit a portion of the rent due by the lessee .of the Town Hall was carried.
One tender was received (from H. Bentley) lor fencing Trust land, near the new school, afc£l 7s 6d per chain, which was referred to Messrs Feist and Perry to settle.
, .Mr' Hare gave notice that he would move at next meeting, " That taking into consideration' the desirability of reducing the overdraft, and also with the object of making provision for, the sum of : agreed/to be giyen on- the completion of the new-school buildings,.it is desirable that the • following' reductions ? shall ba made: The grant to the Masterton school to be reduced to £25 per annum, The grant to the Public Park to be reduced to £2O per annum. The'grant to the Institute only to cover the.interest on over- i draft." . "^
