Melbourne Cup.
The great boil ever is on the Cup, Zulu 1, Czar 2, Sweetmeat 3, all rank outsiders. There were thirty starters. Somnus led for three quarters of a mile, then Zulu assumed lead, and won by two lengths from Czar. The time was threi minutes thirty>two and a half sees. Zulu was handicapped at lowest weight—five stone seven pounds—with three psunds added, he having won a handicap of 100 sovs. after the weights were declared.
