TERRIBLE SCENE AT A BULL FIGHT.
A more terrible catastivpho thm one that took place at Marseilles on August 14th could scarcely If imagined, A bullfight had been'organised in the New Circus, situated in the Promenade on the Prado. It being Sunday a vast gathering of holiday folks assembled to see the sport. All went well till about five o'clock, when suddenly tlio stand.; which were niade of wooden planks, gave way, and precipitated the occupants, abo >tlwo thousand in number, pell-mell on to the ground. The horible s eie that followed can be better imagined than described. For some minutes tl.e shrieks and cries of the victims fs thoy lay jammed and crushed amid the delr;s, paralysed the movements of the cir us people, who rushed about m the gr ate t confusion, But the first terrible hojk over, troops were sent for and the work o rescue began. The sad news so i spread throughout the town and in a, short time nearly all of the inhabitants flocked lo the spot in search of missing friend*. I took several hours to extrica'o tlio dead, dying and wounded fr< m the ruins, 'I Ik sad news soon spread throughout the town and in a short time i ea'l.v all the inhabitants Hocked to the sp.jt in search of missing friends. It took several hours lo ex'ricate the dead, dying, and wounded from the ruins. The latest report puts the dead down at twelve and tie the injured at 150, but more bodies were believed to be still hidden under the debris, Among the victims is M linhaus Paymaster General oi the Treasuiy, who has his right leg smashed, 'While this accident was taking place at Marseilles another fatal bull-fight was witnesred at Nimes, where two of the lorreros were nearly impaled on the horns of the animals. One of the men is reported to have died from his wounds It is now stated that seventeen persons were killed and '2BO others injured by the accident at the Marseilles (ircus on Sunday. The manager of'the bull-fight and the carpenter, who had been charged with the construction of the building, have both been airested.
