WHAREAMA.

FiiOJl OUR OWN llUltllhSl'ONDEX'f. October 28,1881, During the past week wo have had heavy mm frequent showers of rain. This was unlortnn.'ilii for sonm „j' our larger sheeptnvnei's who nro now in tlio midst ol shearing. Rain was. however, wanted by the district at large, though passibly ■ many may wish it would come down ail ftt once, and give the shearers a chance. Amongst those now hard at work are Messrs E, and F. Maunsell and tl;e Eov J. C. Andrew, _ Referring to a paragraph in the Wellington Mail saying ill it Mr .Kobort Maunsell, of To.nui, will he a probable candidate at tlio forthcoming election, 1 may state that the same is utterly without foundation, and that nobody could have boon more surprised than Mr Maunsell himself when he saw the announcement. With regard to the two candidates now in the field (Messrs Bcetham and lieuall) public opinion here is decidedly in favor of the former, Perhaps some may wish that there had been a grea'er selection, but of tho two before us I feel sure that Mr Beethani, as far as Tetiui is concerned, will prove master of the situation. To some of us air Kenall is only known through tho reports of the " doings" of the Town Lands Trust, and that, I fear, is a somewha' unenviable notoriety. There is a rumor that one of our settlers (Mr J. 11. Wislmw) is about to leave us, having sold his propenv ("The Fords") to the Hon W. W. Johnstone. How far this may be true I cannot say, hut should it prove an exception to the run of " yams," I am sure that Mr Wislmw's family will be much missed. Our old 'bete noiiy the cailhquake. paid us a short visit yesterday week, at 7.50 p.m. Though brief, the'shock was fairly sharp. I have not heard of any persons anxious to proceed to the " front" from this district; but, then, the wave oi excitement has not yet had time to penetrate to tins remote region as ye*. Most of lis are, liowever, glad to see'Mr Bryce back in office, and look ut; on lis return as an earnest determination on ik part of the Government to finally put ut stop to Te Willi's bounce.
