At the requisition represents so very large and influential a section of the Burgesßos of Masterton I have much pleasure in acceding to it, and if elected I promise to do my duty to the best of my ability without fear or favor, and to work in unison with tho Councillors for the good of the whole Borough and to conduct tho deliberations of the Council with propriety. My personal views are well known to a large number of the requitionists, but now state for the infermation of other ratepayer that they arc emphatically moores'lve and at the samo time vhee from recklessness. It will be my aim to assist in fostering snch measures as will promote the substantial welfare and advancement of the Borough so as to enable it to attain the position its natural advantages warrants. At the same time I will consider it my duty to counsel the ratepayers agaiust unmatured schemes for reokless borrowing and expenditure, and willusomy best endeavors to protect the Burgeßseß from-being weighted down with excessive ttd burdensomo rates. In concision. I wish to explain my reasons for not having taken part in local matters ere this, are', that although having large in the Borough, I have not till now bad leisure time at my disposal, and partly from not Wishing to push myself forward to tho exclusion of other gentlemen on f .—lam, .
