BOARD OF EDUCATION
(Abridged from tho N.Z. Times.) The usual monthly meeting of the Wellington Board of Education was held or. Wednesday last. Present—Hon C. J, Pharazyn (Chairman), Messrs Hutohison, Blair, 0, Pharazyn, Rev J. Paterson, and Yen Archdeacon Stock,
The Secretary reported a credit balance at the Bunk to the general expeme account of £491 & 5:1, and to the mainlenance account of £3682 19s 9d The building account was overdrawn to the extent of 121919s 4d. and the disbursement acoiunt for October amounted t» £245910* lid. For the month of Novem her £161813s 3d was required. In reply to an application from the Greytnwn School O.immittco for another pupil teacher and an assistant master instead of the two pupil teachers, it was resolved to reply that, as soon ns the average attendance amounted to 180, the request would be considered. The Building: Committee's report was trough' "p, and the f Howing recommen-. dations for grants of money to effect necessary repairs and improvements, and to erpct new adrii'ions to school buildings w(>re adopted:—Wal'aceville school, £150; Whitemnn's Valley school, £150; Opaki, master's residence, £200; Taneru school, PM ; Newton school, £l5O • Tenac? (cilery), £8 lOi; and Ohariu school, £l9; total, £827105. > The sum of £3OO was also voted, authorising a contract for additions to the Tnita school,
A letter was received, soliciting increased school accommodation at Kaitnke. The Inspector was instructed'to report, at the next mee'ing, the requir?ments of the several district schools. The Greytown School Committee wrote that they h d :id ntel IhecompuWy clauses of the Education Act,
The sum of £4510s was voted the Kaiwaiwai school, as an additional grant towards alterations, and and 30s for repairs to the Pahautanui and Greytown schools respectively, In reply to an application from Maslerton, the School Committee at that placo was authorised to proceed with the fencing,of the play"round. The master was authorised to retain his'present residence till such time as the building was required for other purposes. A bonus of £2O was voted to one of the assistant masters of the Te Aro school. ../■■■" The following appointments of teachers to the several district schools were confirmed :—Newtown—Mr Lncke (an assistant, master of Masterton school). Mount Cook ginls' school—Miss Butter'; and on probation,. Miss, Wallace, Thorndon school, as pupil teachers—Miss Myj»rs, Master Trinmath, and :Miss Baaaetk, the latter to the infant school, Taueru school—Mr. Blakejy;. (head : . master).
