[from our own correspondent.] VOLCANIC ERUPTION ■ Wellington, Oct. 25th. A telegram received yesterday says that a volcanic eruption has taken place at West Wanganui, close to the Golden Eid?e quartz claim. There are three large fissures opened, out of which thousands of tons of debris have been thrown, and steam is still issuing accompanied by rumbling subterranean noises, and a amell resembling burning kerosene. SAD CASE, Chkistchurch, Oct. 25. Barker, traveller for the Kaiapoi Brewery, has cut his throat while partly delirious from erysipelas.
