These Soirees have always been very popular, and this ought to be as well patronised as any of the previous We learn that though the entries for the coming Pastoral Show are less in number than they were last year, the character of them are likely to indicate a step in advance. Every endeavor is being made by the committee to make the complimentary concert to Mr G. Palmer as great a success as possible: in addition to the local talont several gentlemen from Masterion-Carter-ton, and Featherston, have kindly consented to take part so we can safely predict a full house in the Town Hall Greytown on Friday evening, A meeting of Wairarapa Teachers was held in the Greytown School on Saturday afternoon, and was moderately attended. It was unanimously resolved that it is highly desirable to form a Teachers' Association for this district, and a subcommittee was appointed to obtain information and draft rules to be submitted to a general meeting at Greytown on the sth November. Much dissatisfaction has from time to time been expressed at the want of a public reading room at Featherston, and wo are pleased to hear the fc a movement is on foot to supply tho desideratum. It is subject for regret that the Master(on school hoys are deprived, through the lack of a suitable paddock, of that practice of cricket which would justify them in accepting the challenges of neighboring schools. The good-fellowship and ' es-prit-dc-corps' developed by school cricket clubs and kindred associations are alwys found to exorcise a favorable influence on the "inoralo" of the scholars, and schoolcommittees need to bo occasionally reminded of the Iron Duke's famous declaration that Waterloo was won on the Eton playing fields. Moreover all work and no play are proverbially prejudicial to Jack's mental culture. In a few square yards of ground boys cannot play —they can only " loaf." In view of the visit of a Wellington team to this district in the ensuiug holidays it may be as well to recall to tho recollection of our local knights of the willow that the Cricketers' Association established some years ago is still in existence. For a long time past no really representative eleven has taken the field, and it seems desirable that the delegates from the various clubs should meet to discuss the question. The " W'airarapa Cricketers' Association" is not dead but sleepeth. At a special meeting of the Greytown Trust Lands Trustees, the date of sale of sections was fixed for next Monday week Nov, 7th.
