GREYTOWN AND ITS FIREBELL.
* . To tlio Editor of the Wairahapa Daily. Sir,—Some time ago Mr Cnselberg presented a fire hull to Greytown; the Borough Council had it tower erected and the hell hunjf in it. Since it has been in office, luckily for the town, it has only fulfilled its ollieial duties twice, and those I believe were for chimneys on fire, But if theie happens to be a soiree or Anything out of the common in the town, the bell must needs be rung. On Saturday last, and again on Tuesday, it rung out " it mild peal of joy,'' as our paper calls it, in honor to a wedding; but, sir, people do not as a rule associate firebells with weddings, and when they are rung naturally cause a feeling of alarm among the inhabitants, If it is to be 11 lirebell it ought to be a punishable offence for anyone to ring it without there is a fire, and I hope the proper authorities will take the matter in hand so that we in Greytown will not he again thrown into a state of excitement by a Falsi; Auior.
