CASTLEPOINT HIGHWAY BOARD.
Tiie first meeting of the new Board was held on Saturday last, at Temii. Present -Messrs Lnngdou, Belliss, Smyth, Miller, and Mackay. Mr Mackay was unanimously elected chairman,
Tlio Treasurer reported the balance available for future expenditure at £'6o4 19s 6d.
Correspondence was read as follows: -From Mr F. G. Smith, applying for office of clerk.-From Mr It. AI. King, re boundary of Mr Kiddle's land.—From Mr Morrison, requesting a grant of i'2o to repair the road from Blairlogie to blacksmith's.- From Mr W. A. Burling, re grant to Glencoe road—From Messrs Stewart and Go,, re freight on limber,— From Colonial Secretary's Office, re election of wardens.-From Mr Wilsone, enclosing copy of resolution on tlio alteration of the boundary of the districtFrom same, re Ohonga and Akitio ferries. —From same, re Provincial Government grants received.—From samo, re grant to Uriti road.—From Mrs Owen, requesting the Board to place her name on the rateroll.
Kesolved—That the sum of £'loo be voted for formation and metalling on Castlopoint main line.
That the sum of £sßlos lOd bo voted for making the necessary drains and culverts on the Uriti line from Waihora to Maugapakeha Creek, in joint action with the Masterton Board, and that a sum of 30s be granted to make a temporary crossing over Cabbage-tree Creek, provided the Masterton Board contribute an equal sum for that purpose. That a sum of £2O be voted for improving the road from Ohonga Ferry to Woodlands.
That a sum of £25 he voted to improve the road from the Uriti road to the new road at Blairlogie, That in reply lo resolutions received from the County Council respecting the maintenance of tho Akitio and Ohonga Ferries, this Board is prepared to undertake the maintenance of the three Funics, Akitiit, Ohonga, and Whareama, fur the annual sum of £BO.
That Mr King be informed that in the opinion of this Board Mr Riddles' boundary line encroached on the road.
That the services of the present Clerk and collector be retained on . the same terms as hitherto, The tenders received for metalling and formation ware in excess of the estimates and were declined, except the 17 chains of formation on the Castlepoint road, which was let to Mr D. O'Kane at 2(js Gd per chain.
The Clerk was directed to call for fresh tenders for metalling; also call for tenders for the lease of the toll-gate for one year. The following accounts were passed for payment :
