FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS. Wellington. A ROW AMONG THE VOLUNTEERS. Quite a commotion has arisen in Volunteer circles owing to the insulting remarks of Colonel Reader, Under Secretary of Defence, towards Lieutenant McCredie of the Artillery, the former having taunted the latter by sneering remarks as to the disinclination of the Artillery to go to the front if called on. The subject is to be brought under tho notice of the Ministor for Defence, meanwhile the Volunteers are very indignant at Reader's behavior. ELECTIONS. Charles J. Johnston has received a requisition from the Te Aro electors to contest the election. This makes three of Johnston's family aspiring for seats in the new Parliament. LAND SALES. Hawera. The demand for land under deferred payments is brisk, and the cash sale on Thursday promises good results, NATIVE AFFAIRS. The Paribaka native meeting takes place on the seventeenth.
