MASTERTON SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

To the Editor of tho Wairaeapa Daily. Sir,—l have observed in your issue of Saturday last that at a meeting of the Town Lands Trust a member gave notice to rescind a grant of £3O, voted for tho benefit of the Mnsterton Public School, Accordintt to ths application made in Y 1878 by the School Committee, this par- / ticularsum was required to supplemeut , tho salary of a teacher who was expected \from Wanganui, and who was iqi >rted to •'h^ 'a man pnssessod of very superior literary attainments; but this gentleman never came to Mastertnn, and by some error the grant was continued, and I believe the School Cmmmniltea without _g>mmunicating 'ho result to the Trust of sMflf» non-arrival of this gentleman, appro- ' priated the sum to tho benefit of the incoming assistant teacher, who has continued to enjoy it to the present time—in addition to his regular salary. I cannot say- from what I have seen in your report—whether tho assistant teacher was distinctly given to understand by the Committee that ho would receive this bonus—which was originally intended for another. The School Committeo are now desirous —after a period of several years—to have the control of this annual grant, perhaps for other uses, hut at the same time assuring the members of the Town Lands Trust that the assistant teacher i»ill not suffer by the chance. However, as nothing can be done before the next meeting of the Trust, a satisfactory arrangement may be arrived at by that time. lam, &c, 4 AFathbis.
