GREYTOMN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tne ordinary monthly meeting of the Greytowii; ■"■ Borough Council was held on Monday evening. Present; Ore Baillie, Thompson, Haigli, Wakelin, Gallagher, and Gray. Cr Bailhe was voted to the chair. " Messrs Varnham and Bright, having made the usual declaration, took their seats iu the Council.
. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence outwards was read from the letter, Correspondence inwards was then read as follows :
From Mr Brooks and others, asking that the ditch leading to Fisher's line might he filled in. From the Registrar-General, asking for information re the division of the Borough.
From the Under-Secretary of the Department of Justice, stating that no amount had been placed on the estimates for a new Court-house. Mr Brooks' letter was referred to the Works Committee. The Clerk was instructed to furnish the necessary information to the Regis-trar-General.
Or Gray moved, and Cr Gallagher seconded, "That the committee appointed at last meeting of the Council be requested to frame a further resolution and take other steps in the matter of a new Court-house." Carried,
Cr Gray asked if any information had been received from the representatives or the Government in respect of the reopening of the police station at Grey town, and moved, " That Mr Bunny bo asked for information in reply to tho latter sent him, accompanied by a petition, respecting tho re-opening of the police station, and as to what steps have been taken in the matter." Cr Wakelin seconded. Carried,
The report showing works completed and in progress since last meeting was read and adopted.
It was resolved that the councillor in charge of the works ho empowered to have a culvert put in across the Main Road, opposite Mr Wyett's residence. The Inspector of Nuisances report was then read.
Crs Haigh and. Gallagher were requested to ascertain the condition of the pound fences and report at next meeting. ; It was resolved that the Inspector he insiructed to prevent furious riding as far as possible, and that Bylaw 78 be brought under his notice and instructions given him to enforce it; also by-law 107. By-law 78 -is as follows—" No person shall discharge any fireworks on or' : within 50 leet from the side of any street" By-law 107—" No person shall keep or s'ore within the Borough any gunpowder or oilier explosive or dangerOils material except in some building in respect of which a license has been issued under these by-laws." The Poundkeeper's report for the past month was read.
The Treasurer's roport was nad, and the accounts submitted were referred to the Finance Committee, with power to
Cr Varuham was appointed a member of the Finance Committee vice Cr Fuller, resigned. Cr Gray moved, and CrVarnham seconded, ''That this Council make an application to the Assistant SurveyorGeneral for a standard map of the Borounh." Carried.
Cr Wakelin's notice of motion re Bylaw 89 was then, hut as it fouud no seconder, it lapsed. The Council then adjourned.
