To Messrs C, A, Vallance, David Picker ing, W. H. Hosking, George Fannin, J, Williams, and the other tientlemen signing the requisition:— GENTLEMEN.— Tn answer to the very large requisition you have presented me with I feet extremely pleased with the honor you have done me and confidence you have displayed in me, especially as it was unsought (or and unex|iectel on my part. Af the requisition represents so very large and inllnentinl a section of the Burgesses of Masterton I have much pleasure in acceding to it, and if elected I promise to do my duty to the best, of my ability without fcuv o>- favor, and to work in unison with the Councillors for the good of the whole Borough and to conduct the deliberations of the Council with propriety, My personal views are well known to a large number of the rajiiitionists, but now state for the information of other ratepayers that they arc emphatically progressive and at the same time fhke ntou recklessness. It will be my aim to assist in fostering sn.uh measures .is will promote the substantia) welfare and advancement of the Borough so as to enable it to attiiu the poiition its natural advantages warrants. At the same time I will consider it my duty to counsel the ratepayers against unmatured schemes for reckless borrowing and exp»nditure, and will use my best endeavors to protect the Burgesses from being weighted down with excessive and burdensome rates.
In conclusion. I wish to explain my reasons for i.ot having taken part in local matters ere this, are that although having large interests in the Kovough, I have not till now had leisure tinwat my disposal, and partly from not wishing to push myself forward to tho exclusion of othtv gontlcmen who had prior claims on tlm suffrages of the Burgesses. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, M. CASELBERG.
