We have received from the Secretary of the Wairarapa Jockey Club a copy of the balance sheet for the past year. The document is remarkable, first for its simplicity and completeness, giving at a glance under carefully arranged headings every information which may be sought for, but it is still more noteworthy as indicating the improved financial position of the Club. The yen r was commenced with a balance of £7B Ins 4d, against which, there were liabilities amounting to £5213s Gd, the net balance amounting to only £2O. The close of Ihe year shows a credit balance of 1211155, that being the excess of assets over liabilities, and a cash balance of £lO3 4s Bd. Considering that this result has been obtained during ayear of depression, the officers of the Club must be congratulated upon having conducted its affairs in a successful mid businesslike manner. The total receipts for the. past year amount to £853 lb's JOd, and out of ihis £457 10s was paid to winners. The working expenses absorbed £lol7s Od, and improvements 165 Is Id, the halance, less cash in hand, being appropriated to paying old debts, and reclamation charges.
