A? the requisition represents so very large and influential a section of the Burgesses of Mascerton I have much pleasure in acceding to it, and if elected I [iromise to do my duty to the best of my ability without fear o>' favor, and to work in unism with the Councilloi'3 for the good of the whole liorough and to conduct the deliberations oi the Council with propriety, My personal views are well known to a large number of the requitionists, but now state for the infermation of other ratepayers that they arc emphatically phooreb<iye and at the same time tree tsom kecklesshess. It will be my aim to assist in fostering such measures as will promote the substantial welfare and advancement of the Borough so as to enable it to attain the position its natural advantages warrants. At the same time I will consider it my duty to counsel the ratepayers against uumaturcd schemes for reckless borrowing and expenditure, and will use my best endeavors to protect the Burgesses from being weighted down with excessive and burdensome rates, In conclusion, I wish to explain my reasons for not having taken part in local matters ero this, are that although having large in the Borough, I have not till now had leisure time at my disposal, and partly from rot wishing to push myself forward to the exclusion of other gentlemen who had prior claims on the suffrages of the Burgesses, I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, M.
