The annual meeting of the members of the Greytown Cricket Club was held in the office of Messrs Beard and' Gray on •Monday evening. There was a good attendance, and Mr. W. G. The fund for the families of the W«sleyan ministers lost in the Tararua now amounts to 12500, of which £2300 was collected in Chriatahurch. Some amounts have yet to come in. The ladies of Greytown, ever ready to promote and encourage any enterprise for the social welfare and improvement of their township, have decided to make and present the Greytown Volunteers with their colors on the occasion of the next review, which is to be held in Greytown. The flag will be of silk, the color blue, with silver letters.
A serious accident happened to Mr W. Burt, of Featherston, on Saturday last. It appears that he, in company with some more horsemen, were giviiig their horses a gallop on the Tauherenikau racecourse, when the one he riding bolted. After, galloping a long distance it fell over a log, throwing Mr Burt heavily on his head, He was conveyed to the'Tauhereuikau Hotel, where every means were used to restore consciousness, but it was about five hours before he oame to, when a buggy was procured and he was taken to his home, and we hear he is now progressing favorably. The usual monthly meeting of the Masterton Hospital Committee was held yesterday afternoon. Present—Messrs Renall, (Chairman), Peiry Bennet and Boddington. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the treasurer's report was read, which showed a credit balance «f £ll los 6d. k letter was read from Mr Payton tendering his resignation as treasurer, also as a member of the committee. It was resolved that the committee has received with very much regret Mr Payton's resignation, and requests him to reconsider it, A lettenvas read from Mr Feist intimating that his business engagements prevented him taking his seat in the committee as requested. It was resolved that the letter stand over till next meet-, ing. The following accounts were passed for payment:—Caselberg &Co £Bl9s 11; J. Vile, Jlls;J.Clayson, 12s; J. Pickering 14s. Mr Bennett was appointed visiting member for the ensuing month.
